How to Change your carrier name WITHOUT jailbreak!

Updated: Works for iPhone 4!
You know the app MakeItMine for Cydia? If you don’t, it allows you to change your carrier name on your iPhone/iPod. I have discovered a way to do this WITHOUT a jailbreak, and only takes about 5 minutes!

Note: This can also enable battery percentage on the iPhone 3G/iPod 2G/iPod 3G.
Another note: Has NOT been tested on the iPhone 4, though I am assuming it works all the same. Rene818 has proven it works!
Note for Mac users: You will have to do this on a Windows machine, you can do it without erasing your synced data from your Mac. This is what I did.

Just remember that I am NOT responsible for any damage cause by this mod.
Step 1:
This mod is done by modifying the iPhone/iPod’s backup. The backup contains a plist called “com.apple.springboard.plist”, and thats what we will editing. So first up, we need to make a backup of our iPhone/iPod. Do this by right clicking on your iPhone/iPod in iTunes and clicking “Back-Up”.

Step 2:
Download iBackupBot and install it. Don’t worry that its a trial, we will only use it once.
Step 3:
Make sure iTunes is closed and you made your backup! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST DATA!
Step 4:
Now to get our hands dirty. Click on your latest backup and look for “Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist”. Double click on it. Just click cancel on the first pop-up.

Step 5: Now add
SBFakeCarrier
Your custom carrier here
below  (just go the end of the line and make a new line).
It should look like this:

Extra: if you are wanting battery percentage, also add:
SBShowbatterylevel

It should look like this with battery percentage:

Step 6:
Click on the save button and close that Window. Now go to File > Restore. Click yes and let it do its thing. Your iPhone/iPod will reboot and show some progress bars etc.
Congrats, you are now done!
