Amazon Brings Kindle to the BlackBerry

Amazon has launched a beta version of its Kindle application for BlackBerry, enabling BlackBerry users to view and sync Kindle titles with Kindle readers and PCs.
Amazon.com has announced a beta version of Kindle for BlackBerry, a reader application for its Kindle ebooks that runs on a broad range of BlackBerry devices. With the Kindle for BlackBerry app, users can not only read Kindle ebooks, they can sync their bookmarks and annotations with Kindle readers or the Kindle application for PCs, as well as search for new ebooks online from the Amazon Kindle Store. The BlackBerry application is Amazon’s latest expansion of the Kindle platform—in addition to its well-known ereader devices, Amazon has Kindle applications for PCs and the Apple iPhone.

“Since the launch of our popular Kindle for iPhone app last year, customers have been asking us to bring a similar experience to the BlackBerry, and we are thrilled to make it available today,” said Amazon’s Kindle VP Ian Freed, in a statement. “We think customers are going to love how easy and fun it is to read their Kindle books on their BlackBerry.”
The application is currently in beta, but is a free download. Kindle for Blackberry users can control the text size of book on their screen, create bookmarks and view existing annotations in their ebooks, access previously-purchased ebooks from Amazon’s servers, and (of course) search and browse over 420,000 books from Amazon’s Kindle store directly from their BlackBerry—and hat includes reading the beginning of a title before they buy it. The Kindle app for BlackBerry also displays books in full color—particularly important for children’s books, graphic novels, and other types of titles.
The Kindle for BlackBerry app currently supports the BlackBerry Bold 9000, Bold 9700, Curve 8520, Curve 8900, Storm 9530, Storm 9550, and Tour 9630 models.
