iDongle and iKey – Hardware Based Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone and iPod Touch

Many of us are aware that Apple recently released its new iBoot 359.3.2 to fix a security vulnerability in iPhone 3GS, and all the owners of the 3GS with bootrom above 5.12.07 are compelled for a Tethered Jailbreak due to the technical aspects involved. If you are one of them, then we have a good news for you! Two new hardware solutions “iDongle” and “iKey” that claim to solve the tethering problem of iPhone 3GS will soon be available in the market using which all the 3GS handset users can enjoy Untethered Jailbreak without much hassle.

iDongle is a little thumb-sized dongle that enables you to reboot your device thus providing a solution for the tethering problem. For those who are unaware of tethering, it is a process wherein you have to re-jailbreak every time you restart device and for rebooting the device, it has to be connected to the computer. However, using this small device that plugs into the 30 pin dock connector of your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can re-jailbreak the handset on the go without worrying about crashes or reboots.

This wireless portable device, powered by 9v battery can be connected to your iPhone as a USB cable and it works as a jailbreaker when in need of a reboot for iPhone 3GS. In order to iDongle on your handset, you have to Power-on your jailbroken device and plug iDongle on iTunes logo then wait for LEDs to end flashing and unplug iDongle or wait for boot to complete the process.

iDongle supports iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G/3G with OS versions 3.1 / 3.1.1 / 3.1.2 and is applicable to all the 3GS phones manufactured after week 40(2009) as well as the iPod Touch 2G with serial number beginning with “MC” and the iPod Touch 3G handsets. Still in the development phase, the release date of iDongle is not yet announced.

iKey is an another excellent hardware accessory much similar to the iDongle for jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS handsets. Designed by Team DevilJailbre0k, iKey enables users to make a safe untethered iBoot Jailbreak. iKey is much compact and faster when compared to the iDongle and this hardware solution allows you to easily launch the jailbroken 3GS device without jailbreaking it again. Though the authenticity of this dongle still unclear, iKey will be compatible with iPhone 3G/3GS, iPod Touch 3G with firmware 3.1.2. The release date of iKey is also not announced.
