All 5 Jailbreak Ways and Unlock for 3.1.3 Firmware [Updated Links]

We have been covering various jailbreaking tools, as they have been released, for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The numbers of emails and messages for support requests keep on increasing day by day, mostly because people don’t read and follow the guides properly. Therefore, we have decided to do a recap of all the methods we have covered. We will be starting with the iPhone in this guide. A guide for iPod Touch will be available soon.

Before reading the following, if you haven’t upgraded to 3.1.3 yet, you made a smart choice. If you have, the bootrom of your iPhone would have updated, which can cause various issues with jailbreaks and unlocks.
F0recast

f0recast was created by the developer behind sn0wbreeze. While you can’t jailbreak using this tool, it provides you helpful information on whether your iPhone can be unlocked and if the jailbreak will be tethered or untethered. We recommend using f0recast to find out which tool to use. Read more here.

Redsn0w

The iPhone Dev Team had redsn0w 0.9.4 quickly out of the door when iPhone OS 3.1.3 was released. redsn0wThis release jailbreaks the following iPhone models:

* iPhone 2G
* iPhone 3G

Support for custom boot and recovery logos was added in this version. Read our guide here and here and here

sn0wbreeze

sn0wbreeze is a jailbreak tool by ih8sn0w aimed at both novices and advanced users. Since most of the users are satisfied with the basic functionality, we created a guide using the simple mode of sn0wbreeze. sn0wbreezeThe latest version at the time of writing that this is 1.5, which has support for the following iPhone

models:

* iPhone 2G
* iPhone 3G
* iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)

Read the complete guide here. It was written using sn0wbereze 1.3, but the same steps apply for versions 1.5 as well.

Ultrasn0w

Ultrasn0w unlocks your iPhone so that it can work with any carrier. If you have jailbroken your iPhone 3G or 3GS, use Cydia to download ultrasn0w, reboot, and you are good to go. Here’s our guide which contains the address of the repository to add in Cydia along with complete steps in detail.

PwnageTool
PwnageTool 3.1.5 was released by the Dev Team which made it compatible with the following iPhone

models:

* iPhone 2G
* iPhone 3G
* iPhone 3GS (old bootrom)
PwnageTool 3.1.5 lets you update to OS 3.1.3 safely while preserving your jailbreak and unlock if you already have. If you use the blacksn0w unlock ( baseband 05.11.07 ), you should stay at OS 3.1.2. PwnageTool is only available for Mac. Find out more here.

Downgrading iPhone 3GS from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2

This method worked for some people but others complain it doesn’t. We haven’t been able to verify it so try this at your own risk ( just like other methods ).

This guide will should help all iPhone jailbreakers out there. But if you take our word for it, don’t upgrade to 3.1.3. It has no new feature and could cause issues until the new bootrom is cracked. Don’t fall for paid jailbreaks and unlocks, they are lies. And last but not the least, don’t expect a fix for the tethered jailbreak issues and new iPhone 3G S jailbreaks/unlocks yet. If the Dev Team or George Hotz find some fix, they’ll keep it safe until the next major iPhone OS update, Find out more here
