iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Unlocking Advise [Q]

I bought iPhone 4 originally 4.0.2. I live in india so asked around for unlocking / jailbreaking it but everyone (including forums online) opined that iOS 4.0.2 wont be unlocked/jailbroken as it was an update which only cured the jailbreakme.com loophole. So i asked around and people told me to update to 4.1 as that is a major update which will have an unlock/jailbreak. so i did through iTunes directly.

Now i read everywhere that the iTunes 4.1 update is a trap. so I am basically wondering whether there is anyway to downgrade or install os 4.0.1 on my iPhone (which currently has 4.1 post my stupid 4.0.2 itunes update). OR if my iPhone 4.1 will ever be unlocked/jailbroken.
