How 3G Unrestrictor Works ? [Q]

How exactly does 3G Unrestrictor work? I know it tricks the iPhone into thinking you’re on wi-fi. But does that mean even though you are actually on 3G that you won’t be using up your data plan because it thinks you’re on wi-fi? Thus you could basically have a low data plan but use it as if it
was unlimited ? Or am i just crazy?
