More Features for AirPlay Next Year!

According to MacRumors, one of the readers emailed Steve Jobs if Apple was ever going to enable Airplay to stream videos from third party apps and Safari Pages. Surprisingly, Steve Jobs replied back!

Q: Hi, I recently updated both my iPhone 4 and iPad to 4.2. I think my favourite feature is airplay. This is seriously amazing and makes sharing content seamless. I just purchased Apple TV and was wondering are you ever going to make airplay video work for videos in safari and 3rd party apps? I hope to get a response. :)

A: Yep, hope to add these features to Airplay in 2011.
Airplay is the technology introduced in iOS 42 that lets users stream content from their iOS devices with iOS 4.2.1 to an Apple TV. Currently, Airplay can only be functional on Youtube, photos, and video apps that were part of the iOS but it has been extended to all apps thanks to AirVideoEnabler. It is assumed that Steve will be improving upon AirPlay in the new future.

Even though Airplay doesn't support third party apps, jailbroken device can stream content to other iOS devices or from iTunes if they are on the same network.

Apple Introduces the iPod Ninja [Humor]

A little more than a week after Apple CEO Steve Jobs was reportedly prevented
from taking Ninja stars out of Japan, the company has unveiled the iPod ninja, according to Scoopertino. Today Apple announced the "dangerously cool" iPod ninja, the last of the new 2010 iPod family. This razor-thin iPod combines the fun of entertainment with the thrill of lethal weaponry. And it’s super-easy to buy.

"iPod ninja fits into that sweet spot between the iPod touch and a small handgun," says Apple spokesperson Ted Wetmore. "It gives you peace of mind. You can either enjoy your music on the device — or you can fling it at anyone who looks at you funny. With a little practice, you can take down a foe at 50 feet."

However, there is a dark side to the new iPod. As iPod ninja sales boom, some blogs are already reporting a “death grip” problem even worse than the one that plagued iPhone 4. If you hold iPod ninja in a certain way, you may require immediate medical care.

Apple with new Apple's TV?

Apple has just pulled a new Apple TV which has no storage, no purchases. It's now a streaming-focused device with an in a small matte black enclosure we're calling "the hockey puck." New Apple TV rents new HD movies for $4.99, TV episode rentals for 99 cents. ABC and Fox to start. Includes Netflix streaming as well.

undefined

Steve Jobs explains,
On the back it’s really simple. It’s got the power supply built in. One HDMI connector. And if you have Ethernet, it’s built in, but if you don’t we’ve built in WiFi. You plug in these two cables and it’s on your network, and that’s all you have to worry about.

It’s got a great remote, and it’s really easy. It’s all HD (when the content’s available. We’ve gone to the rental model, there are no purchases anymore. There’s no storage, because it’s all rental. It’s so affordable you can rent something several times for less than buying it. And you can stream from your computer
Good move Apple? No purchases. No storage. Streaming, no syncing. It's all about Rentals?

iPod Nano From The Apple Event [First Look]

After pointing out and showed the evolution of different iPod nano Steve Jobs asked the audience how they were going to make it better . The answer was to remove the clickwheel and aesthetically the new nano looks like a square with a multi-touch interface , 46 % smaller, 42% thinner Clips, hook , buttons for volume, Voice Over Radio and 24 hours of autonomy.

undefined

Available in 29 languages well you can listen to music , podcasts , use Nike + (it has the integrated pedometer ) , listening to radio , watch the time like a clock ( fought for the recent rumors ) .

The demo session highlighted the functionality of the product, although it seems too small for multi-touch interface . The usability of the device is extreme. The latest gem is that Steve Jobs has shown is the ability to rotate the interface to use the device in any direction.

It will cost $ 149 for the 8GB version and $ 179 for the 16GB version , available in the same Shuffle colors.

Steve Jobs Says Software Update Will Fix iOS 4 Performance on iPhone 3G [video]

Steve Jobs has reportedly responded to an email about performance issues with iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G.

I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Software update coming soon.

Sent from my iPhone
It's likely that Jobs is referring to the iOS 4.1 firmware which is currently being tested by developers. This firmware is also thought to bring a fix for the iPhone 4 proximity issues.

Apple Antenna Engineer Knew About iPhone 4 Dropped Calls Issue, Told Steve Jobs About it

It seems the iPhone 4 antenna issues were a known fact, even before the handset was released. At least so says Apple senior engineer and antenna expert Ruben Caballero, who told Steve Jobs that the antenna design on the new device could make the phone drop calls. Bloomberg has the scoop on this info.

At the time of the engineer’s discovery, the iPhone 4 was in the early stages of design, so things could have been changed for the best. For now, Apple spokesman Steve Dowling refuses to comment on the engineer’s statement and also won’t let Caballero say anything to the press any more.
The main event of the day is certainly Apple’s press conference, taking place at 10 AM Pacific time and clearing up the whole iPhone 4 antenna issue (we hope). While some say the iPhone 4 will suffer a major recall, there could be a software fix ready to rid us of dropped calls. Which one will it be?

Jobs : Video Uploads Coming In The Future

Again one emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs to ask about this issue and express disappointment at the inability to directly upload HD content to the web while on the go. In an email reply, Jobs notes that the ability to upload HD content over the air is coming "in the future".

You can upload them via a Mac or PC today. Over the air in the future.

Sent from my iPhone

While Jobs gives no timeframe for when we might see such a feature, it does give users looking for this capability some hope for the future. HD video uploads via 3G would obviously place a greater strain on carriers' networks and also eat further into customers' data limits. For that reason it might make sense for Apple to either roll out the feature as a Wi-Fi-only at first, and perhaps offering it via 3G further down the road with user-selectable options for varying export quality.

Steve Jobs replied iPhone 4 antenna band problems

A new email from Steve Jobs about the iPhone 4 antenna band problems.
where touching the stainless steel on the lower left side causes the signal to drop or go away completely seems to a off a response either curtly dismissive or perhaps… encouraging?

rfbandit/Mark wrote:
I love everything about the phone except my signal issues
Steve Jobs replied:
There are no reception issues. Stay Tuned.
Now as with any and all supposed Steve Jobs customer support email, we have no way of knowing whether any individual one is real or not. But if it is… Jedi mind-trick? Cruel pun? Or a sign that Apple knows what the problem is and has a fix in the works?
If so, it could signal a change from Apple’s last communication on the matter:
Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.
