Jailbreak about die by Federal Government ?!
NBC reports that Apple has asked the federal government to help crack down on hackers and stop them from jailbreaking iPhones.
Current jailbreak technologies now in widespread use utilize unauthorized modifications to the copyrighted bootloader and operating system, resulting in the infringement of the copyrights in those programsThis request came just after Sony's filed lawsuit against PlayStation and iPhone hacker Geohot. This action from Apple came though the Library of Congress having deemed that jailbreaking your iPhone in order to install applications not approved by Apple is totally legal. [NBC, via iClarified]

Apple TV And iTunes Downloads Slowed Due To Google DNS
Users experiencing slow movie rental downloads via Apple TV or iTunes should make sure they're not using a centralized domain name service such as Google DNS, which can dramatically slow down media access to Content Delivery Networks.
Last December, Google launched Google DNS as a free service intended to give users an alternative to their Internet Service Provider's own DNS servers. At the time, the company touted faster performance and security in using its own DNS, which enables client computers to look up IP addresses of Internet servers from their easier to remember domain name.
While Google DNS (and similar services, such as UltraDNS and OpenDNS) may enable users to bypass domain blocking rules and redirects configured by their ISP or their company's IT department, and can also speed network performance in some cases by resolving IP addresses faster, the centralized DNS services can also defeat the distributed nature of DNS itself.
Network users are supposed to look up IP addresses from a nearby server, which itself queries and caches answers to name and address lookups from other DNS systems, distributing the workload across the network. CDNs like Akamai, which Apple works with to deliver iTunes downloads, use DNS lookup information to locate where users are, and then optimize content delivery via the nearest available server.
When millions of users all tap into the same DNS server addresses to resolve domain names, as Google DNS does by design, Akamai and other CDNs route content to those users along the same path, preventing the network from working optimally. This causes problems not only for Apple's iTunes, but also any other media streaming or download service that uses a similar CDN strategy to distribute downloads.
May cost foreign users extra
In addition, according to a report by APC, some foreign providers that have dedicated media links to enable efficient, cost effective delivery are bypassed when users configure their systems to use a service like Google DNS, bypassing the user's quota for free downloads.
This can result in extra costs for the user, as their otherwise-free media downloads are billed directly because they don't take advantage of local delivery links and instead pull data directly from American servers.
Reverting to local DNS services
Google provides instructions on how to configure its own Google DNS services, which can be used to revert back to the original DNS settings. In many cases, users obtain automatic DNS server assignments from their ISP in the same DHCP process that provides them with their IP addresses.
Users with wireless base stations or any devices with statically configured network settings (such as an Apple TV) may need to verify that their network devices are all using the local DNS addresses from their ISP, rather than Google DNS, if slow media downloads are a problem.

Apple brings Google Voice Search like functionality to iOS?
Apple’s job listings are usually a good indication of what’s to come and tonight Apple began searching for four engineers with a specific focus on voice technologies in iOS. These four positions (1,2,3,4) break up into an iOS Speech Application Engineer, two Speech Recognition Engineers, and a Senior Speech Research Scientist. With three different job types, all with a focus on voice recognition, Apple appears to be serious about this.
What is even more interesting is where Apple wants the potential applicants to have experience. Have you heard of Nuance’s voice recognition software? How about Google’s Voice recognizing Cloud used in Android OS? Well, Apple prefers the engineers working on iOS’s voice recognition to have “demonstrated experience with Nuance Recognizer, IBM WebSphere Voice, Google Voice Search, or similar voice search tools.”Are you looking to contribute to a product that is redefining the smartphone? The iOS Application Frameworks team is looking for an exceptional Speech Engineer. You will work with our team on a wide variety of speech-related development activities. We need a team player – you will be working closely with engineers on the Application Frameworks team as well as other teams at Apple – and we need someone who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
You may recall Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak saying something about Nuance’s voice technology in connection to Apple, then denying it, or you may have heard about Apple’s acquisition of Artificial Intelligence company Siri. It seems to all be coming together now. Check out a video of Siri’s voice recognition software running on iPhone for a peak into iOS’s future.

Shocking! Apple Removes Jailbreak API Detection !
Apple has just completely removed Jailbreak Detection API for iOS! It has been completely disabled or removed from iOS 4.2.1, as NetworkWorld reports. This is very shocking from Apple.
An API is a programming resource that developers can make use of that their software or operating system is functioning properly and that it isn't modified. Even though jailbreaks can still get through, it gets harder and harder to find exploits because Apple keeps patching them. For some shocking reason, Apple has removed the API. This is unrelated to Apple's preventive jailbreak measures. An API only detects if the system is modified.
It’s an interesting concept – asking the OS to tell you if it has been compromised, because a smart attacker might first change that very part of the OS. Jailbreaks often get better and better at disguising the fact that anything has been compromised. [I]t may be feasible to detect jailbreaks of a specific version or type, but they will still be trapped in the cat and mouse game they play with jailbreakers. Whatever they add [in the OS] to detect the jailbreak, if it is to be queried from the iOS kernel, it must be accessible and have the ability to be changed. Meaning, if it is going to be a useful detection method it can also be circumvented. It is a fairly intractable problem to solve 100%.This isn't exactly a permanent victory for jailbreakers, since an API is just basically to protect users from malicious ones, but it's assumed that there could be extra exploits from the removal of the API. iTunes' 90-Second Song Previews Started to Roll Out !
We've been waiting for this a long time: Apple has, as promised, started offering 90-second song previews of songs in the iTunes store. All songs that are at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds long will now have a 90-second preview. Shorter ones will continue the 30-seconds samples.
Apple has confirmed last month to extend song previews to 90 seconds. As the reports we got state that not all songs offer the extended previews yet. Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West stuff works great with the 90-second preview.
This is really good news for us as the old 30-second previews weren't long enough to let us know whether the song is worth to download or not, but the 90-seconds is the right one. What do you think?

I apologize for the delay in greenpois0n 4.2.1 support. Our current focus is on a permanent untether solutionTill now there is no ETA (estimate to arrival) for the new Greenpois0n. By the way Comex is also developing a new method to make untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 on all devices and it's expected to see the light on Christmas.

iBooks VS. Google Books
Couple of days back, Google announced their new eBook app release of Google Books. This app allows you to read eBooks off your iOS device just the same as Apple's iBooks. It also lets you buy books from a store. So whats the difference between iBooks and Google Books? Which is the better one?
Even though the animation in Google Books is lacking, it's programming is very well done. Google is said to have the the greatest collecions of books.
Another thing about Google Books is that feature of unlimited storage in a digital cloud. This allows you to save all your eBooks onto Google Account. What's good about this is that you can read all your books online from the app without downloading them. You an also read them online from Google's book site.
The one major thing about Google Books is iTunes syncing. For now, iBooks is the only app that can seamlessly sync into iTunes, but it lacks reading iTunes.
In conclusion, Google Books seems like the better option here if you're on the go and if you rarely ever sync with iTunes. Google Books provides so many features, but if you're that type of person who likes to stick with iTunes and also have a nice interface to deal with, stick to iBooks. Google Books should probably release some updates in the near future. Besides, it's only their first release.

iSHSHit Save SHSH Blobs
iSHSHit is a new Cydia utility that allows you to save SHSH blobs directly from your iphone, iPod touch or iPad itself, without the need to use a desktop application such as TinyUmbrella.
Technically, once you press save, the SHSH blobs are already saved, but you can also send them via email to another inbox for more permanent keeping, cool, eh?
iSHSHit is a free Cydia tweak and you need a jailbroken device to install this app so you can follow our guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 or use Limera1n for iOS 4.1 jailbreak. I really recommend this app to save your SHSH blobs since is convenient, fast, and easy! I'm sure saving SHSH blos won't consume too much time out of your day. All it takes is 3 seconds! Who knows, maybe if your device's firmware corrupts, you can restore to the same firmware and keep your jailbreak. This is a must have for any jailbreaker.

Graviboard Released !
In our last post, we told you that GraviBoard will bring Gravity to your iOS device, and here we go. Ever wanted to let your apps float on your springboard? Now you can with the new release of Graviboard. Graviboard is a Cydia tweak that allows your apps to float in different sets of gravity. The preset ones are Earth, Moon, and Zero Gravity. Graviboard also comes with a custom gravity so you can set the gravity to your liking.
Graviboard for now is a pretty simple jailbreak tweak. There aren't that many features yet, but I'm sure it will expand and continue to update for more features. Some of the cons of Graviboard is that you cannot keep the apps with no gravity on when you launch apps. This is also limited because you cannot apply Graviboard to folders and scroll to other pages.
To enjoy this tweak, you need a jailbroken iOS device, you can use our guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 or use Limera1n for iOS 4.1 jailbreak. Graviboard is available in Cydia for $2.99 via BigBoss repository, believe me, it's awesome!
