SHSH All Guides [How to] [video]

In the world of jailbreak, the notion of SHSH has gained importance since the arrival of iOS 4.x.
This concerns the majority of iDevices and concerns about a restoration of an old firmware (operating system) via the iTunes software.

Preamble :

Currently, if you want to do a system restore (IOS) of your iDevice, Apple through the iTunes software will only allow you to restore the latest firmware today.
If you try to restore an earlier version of the iOS on your iDevice, iTunes software will display an error.
This will allow the restoration of an iOS based on the signature of a file called SHSH that matches your iDevice. This file is unique to each SHSH iDevice as UDID (unique device identifier).
Apple indicates that the latest firmware today, so Saurik (the creator of Cydia) has set up a server that hosts your signatures SHSH allowing the restoration of all OS 3x or iOS 4x if and only if you signed your file SHSH correpsondant the firmware of the moment .
We can bypass the validation of Apple for the restoration of an old firmware via iTunes] software.

example:

At the time iOS  4.1 firmware, you are jailbroken or not, you should have signed your SHSH your iDevice corresponding to 4.1 for the IOS you can restore that same iOS 4.1 When an IOS would be available as the higher iOS 4.2 x.

To sign your file SHSH iDevice for your current firmware, there are 2 UDMA:
  •  With software TinyUmbrella (from the computer) for users jailbroken or non-jailbroken .
  •  With Cydia (since iDevice only) for users jailbroken.
TinyUmbrella
  •  3G/3GS/4 iPhone, iPod 2G (TM) 3G, 4G and iPad.
  •  Jailbreak  or not jailbroken.
  •  All iOS 3x or iOS 4x.
  •  The latest version of Java on your computer.

This software for Windows users, Mac and Linux will allow you to sign and send to the server Saurik, stoker on his computer files for the current firmware SHS and also pick up your old files SHSH signed for old firmware if this is the case at the time.

  •  For a non-jailbroken, it can help you the day you decide to go to the dark side of the jailbreak!
  •  Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella.
  •  Connect your computer to your iDevice.
  •  Launch TinyUmbrella.exe.
  •  Click on "Save SHSH"

Everything is done automatically, recording and sending to the server Saurik, your file SHSH signed for the current firmware only, recovery (if any) of your files SHSH signed for an old firmware on the server Saurik.

Note: If you have already signed a file for your SHSH iDevice for an old firmware at the time, with each new firmware release from Apple, you are automatically signed on SHSH  Saurik server.

  •  This software also allows you to move in or out of Recovery mode (mode in which the iOS is loaded at startup, DFU is a mode in which the iOS is not loaded at startup.)
  •  Storing your file SHSH signed for a given firmware on your computer.
  •  Some configuration settings are available.
  •  This software is also assisting the restoration of an old firmware (signed) on your iDevice via iTunes software without error.

You can save your file SHSH for an iPhone (not activated via iTunes stuck on the Apple cable +), simply place your iPhone in DFU or Recovery and create and sign your own by clicking on Manual iDevice CDIS.

Cydia

There are 2 very simple ways to save your file and sign SHSH corresponding to the current firmware:

Make My Life Easier

  •  After you jailbreak your iDevice you run a first application Cydia.
  •  In case you have not signed your file SHSH s iDevice: a logo with a heart and the title "Make My Life Easier, thanks! "Appears on the home Cydia.
  •  Click on the heart.
  •  Your file is automatically saved SHSH and signed for the current firmware on the server Saurik and so you can restore the firmware on all the time with the software via iTunes TinyUmbrella without error.
  •  Your file will also be automatically signed SHSH each new firmware on the server Saurik.

On the home Cydia (top-green) are displayed for which firmwares SHSH your file is signed, you can restore to them.

iSHSHit
  •  3G/3GS/4 iPhone, iPod 2G (TM) 3G, 4G and iPad.

  •  Since Cydia, install the 1.0.0 package iSHSHit

SHSH your file is signed for the current firmware and you will restore him to all the time. Automatic sending of this file SHSH signed on the server Saurik.

iSHSHit Save SHSH Blobs

iSHSHit is a new Cydia utility that allows you to save SHSH blobs directly from your iphone, iPod touch or iPad itself, without the need to use a desktop application such as TinyUmbrella.

This new Cydia tweak is pretty simple to use. Basically, you just make sure that the information you want saved are correct and press save. It should prompt you by downloading the SHSHs. What iSHSHit basically does next is that is opens up to a new mail page sending the attachments to any e-mail account you want.
Technically, once you press save, the SHSH blobs are already saved, but you can also send them via email to another inbox for more permanent keeping, cool, eh?

iSHSHit is a free Cydia tweak and you need a jailbroken device to install this app so you can follow our guide posted here to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 or use Limera1n for iOS 4.1 jailbreak. I really recommend this app to save your SHSH blobs since is convenient, fast, and easy! I'm sure saving SHSH blos won't consume too much time out of your day. All it takes is 3 seconds! Who knows, maybe if your device's firmware corrupts, you can restore to the same firmware and keep your jailbreak. This is a must have for any jailbreaker.

TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 has been released with many bugfixes and features [Windows, Mac, Linux]

TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 has been released with many bugfixes and features. BTW Check out the FAQ above or in the quick links under HELP!
Full details to follow after the break.

TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 introduces the following changes:
  • Click on 'Show All SHSHs' button 'Save SHSH' will change to 'Save All SHSHs'
  • Now, clicking the right mouse button on a device in recovery mode, we use the 'Recovery Exit' to exit the terminal mode.
  • You can now change the name of a previously connected device. Just click twice on one of the devices known to proceed with the name change.
TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 You can download from the links, of course, choosing one that works with your operating system:
  • TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 (Windows)
  • TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 (Mac)
  • TinyUmbrella 4.1.12 (Linux)
Recall that Apple is planning to issue a new update that will correct IOS used by the exploit in Geohot Limera1n, turning it the jailbreak done with this tool from tethered to untethered. Just to avoid this and not be forced to upgrade their device, thus losing any possibility of jailbreak is highly recommended that you save the certificate SHSH.
